A little help from my friends

They were the biggest band in the world at the time.

And yet, their drummer was reluctant to take the microphone.

Famously, Lennon and McCartney were the driving forces behind The Beatles. All but one song on the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band concept album is credited to the duo.

They also typically split lead singer duties, though they wrote one track that was meant for Ringo to sing.

But the drummer wasn’t sure he could hit all the notes.

Kind of ironic, given the first line is about singing out of tune.

John and Paul encouraged him. They knew that Ringo would be the perfect fit for the song’s message of friendship and support.

With this help from Ringo’s friends, he went on to sing “With a Little Help From My Friends,” the second track on the album.

The song became a classic and is now considered one of The Beatles’ signature songs, with Ringo’s lead vocals being an essential part of its charm and enduring popularity.

It could also be the developer relations anthem.

Building software is hard and we all need the help of friends. In my mind, great content can scale that “friendship” better than any other tactics—if it has an authentic message to share.

That’s the philosophy I aimed to spread with Developer Marketing Does Not Exist. And thousands of readers later, I hear multiple times per week about its impact.

Now I’d like to help you and many others attract more of the right audience with Technical Content Strategy Decoded.

It’s coming soon, but it will not be on Amazon. That’s because I’d like to get to know every reader.

More friends.

This means I’ll rely on help from you, friend. Can you share it with someone who will help?

When Ringo tours with his band these days, they typically save “With a Little Help From My Friends” for an encore.

His voice might not be able to hit the notes quite as well as 50 years ago. But by that point, let’s be honest, he’s definitely not singing the song alone.
