The checker spoke my language

1 min read

Have I told you about the time I stayed up all night watching movies to learn an essential lesson about developer content?

This took place a few years ago in my favorite city, but the memory still feels fresh…

It’s been a sleepless flight to Amsterdam, making the most of Delta’s entertainment selection.

The 10-hour flight lands at about 8:00 a.m. local time and I’m already exhausted.

Not time to get on the train yet…

I grab a juice and join the back of the line at the Albert Heijn grocer, a supermarket inside Schiphol Airport. As each weary traveler approaches the counter, the checker greets them in the appropriate language.

Dutch, English. English, Dutch. Maybe French?

Somehow…

Each time the checker knows which language to choose, without any of us speaking first.

My brain is barely working, so I’m thankful to use my native language for the transaction.

And THAT is the feeling developers get when your content is specific to the language, framework, or even simply their point of view.

Developers may not be jet-lagged, but they are busy and distracted.

Their pattern-matching skills are some of the best.

You want to avoid the marketing pattern and match the helpful technical solution pattern.

That means knowing the problems they want to solve. Communicating about it in a way that resonates.

And, sometimes, literally speaking in their language.

When you’re ready, the EveryDeveloper team can help you reach more of the right audience.
