The developer head nod
There are perks of being a regular. It’s one of the reasons I return to my local coffee shop day after day.
If there’s a long line, the barista will often get my attention and set my usual order aside.
When I go elsewhere, it’s a whole different experience…
Sometimes there’s no line at all and I still can’t get attention from the other side of the counter.
I know things get busy.
Maybe there’s a backup of orders.
Or all the staff is preparing food.
But most customers still want some acknowledgment. Even a little head nod will help.
When developers first visit your site, at least give them a head nod. That can be in your headlines (like “Making the world a better place for developers“).

Or your nav or code on the page. Anything to show they’re in the right place.
Most of the top 30 dev-focused companies make a developer audience feel welcome.
That experience continues through their documentation, onboarding, and more…
Often, this is hard to see on your own site—if you’re so busy working at the cafe, you might not notice a line forming.
