A star is born (and it’s not you)

1 min read

There’s an old Hollywood joke about minor roles in movies.

Say there’s a scene in a pharmacy. Somebody has to play the pharmacist.

Talk to the actor and they’ll tell you it’s a movie about a pharmacist.

Even though they’re on screen for one minute and might not even make the credits.

We’re all the stars of our own life movies, right?

The mistake we make is imposing that belief on others.

And this isn’t another “marketers mess this up” message. The most well-meaning developers do it, too. It’s human.

Devrel, for example, can appear to be about attracting a spotlight. But those best at the job quickly transition that spotlight to the developers around them.

Just as you aren’t the star, neither is your company or product. You’ll attract more engagement with developer problems that you acknowledge and examine… before you offer your product as a solution.

Want help identifying those problems that will lead to greater engagement? We’ve been helping companies like yours do that and build content engines to attract more of the right developers.
